Urban life versus rural life
“Mom, look! There’s a cow!”. This was how excited me and my sister will be, whenever we go to dad’s hometown. The many villages and rural areas we will pass by on the way to Mentakab, keeps our eyes wide open to see for anything that seems new to us. Personally, the very first time I saw a cow in a closer distance was at the age of 18. All these are no surprise to our grandparents and to some of our parents as well. In the comparison between urban life versus rural life, let’s look at some of the advantages of urban life.
Beautiful
toilets! Maybe that was not a good point to start off with? Well, it’s one of
the reasons I feel grateful for living in the city. Cities are well developed
places with many buildings which are tall and huge. Fortunately, we have good
toilet systems and beautifully clean toilets to be used mostly everywhere.
However, if it’s a village, then first of all it’s hard to find toilets and
secondly cleanliness is a big issue. Moreover, modern toilets are spacious
compared to the ones in villages. Unfortunately, people with claustrophobia,
which is the irrational fear to be in confined spaces will certainly have a
hard time living in villages. Excretory system is one of the important systems
in our body that aids us in excreting toxic wastes to keep us healthy. Consequently,
it’s extremely important to feel comfortable in the toilet to be at ease to
answer nature’s call.
Secondly,
exposure proportionally means knowledge. The more you are exposed to a variety
of things, the more knowledgeable you become. Living in a city provides you
with many opportunities to increase your knowledge. For example, students
living in the city are taught using high technology tools like the power point
slides, projector, computer and many more which makes them advanced compared to
the ones living at villages. All the more so internet has created a platform
for individual learning where one can learn almost anything anytime.
Reasonably, the high population of educated and modern people in the city
shapes the society. Living in the city, we also learn how to talk, eat and
behave in a proper manner looking at the people around us. So people living in
the cities are exposed to so many things that indirectly educated them.
Thirdly,
those living in the city are more health and hygiene concerned compared to the
people living in urban areas. This is because of the high living standards in
cities which also reduces unnecessary sicknesses due to hygienic problems. Do
you know anyone who shares toothbrushes? I bet you have not. People living in
urbanized areas count cleanliness more than delicious foods. In the villages,
as long as the food is delicious people go there, contrary to people in
urbanized area who can even get disappointed over the little flaws in food
preparing methods at places we eat. Besides, people living in the city are more
health concerned and do not take health related symptoms lightly compared to
villagers. We who live in the city go for check-ups consistently and take our
medicines regularly. Most of these differences are due to the lack of awareness
among the villagers, mostly due to the lack of knowledge and exposure.
Lastly,
there are many more advantages for living in the city than the ones that have
been pointed out earlier. “Every human has something to offer this world; the
question is will we create a society that can see everyone’s worth?”, is a
beautiful quote by a writer named Michael T Coe. Truly I believe that living in
cities provides opportunities to bring the best of just anyone. However, even
though I am well aware of the disadvantages that are present for those living
in the city, the hope on us, to make changes for the better convinces me that
rural life is better than urban life.
