Homeschooling Versus Public schooling
“Oh no!
It’s Monday tomorrow!”, groans the little kid in my neighbourhood. Mondays can
be much of a grieve for the ones that has to go to school. Homeworks,
assignments, competitions, quiet library sessions, bullies and so many things
wobble in our minds when we think of our old school days. Adding on, another
approach to learning called homeschooling was once an option only available to
the elite social classes, now has become a way of life for many kids. Some
prefer the old way of sending off the kids to either public or private schools
and others educate their children at home through homeschooling. So is it a
mere choice that parents make for their kids, or is there more to it? Absolutely
yes! And that’s why I personally think publicschooling as the best for any
ordinary kid.
One
of the many reasons to send kids to public schools is to give our children
exposure to the world. Schools are where you can meet hundreds of other kids
with different family backgrounds, culture and lifestyle. This affects the
mental and emotional growth of our children too. Exposure to the reality of the
world builds character in a child. He or she learns how to make friends, get
betrayed, get to know new things about friends of different race, understands
true friendship and many more. All these experiences allow the psychosociology
aspect in a child to grow and be refined. However, a child who is homeschooling
will miss out the whole opportunity of mixing around with a large number of crowds,
which deprives the growth of a child psychosociologically.
Adding
on, a child also learns how to handle real life situations when they are sent
to schools. What happens in school is real and everyone will have troubles
either coming in their way or them moving towards it. For instance, when a
child gets bullied, he or she will think of how to get over it. This is where
the child tries to find ways to get over with those bullies which often ends in
success, and in some other cases they need the help of their parents. So this
teaches the child that if he or she can’t get over a problem than it’s time to
let our parents handle them. Eventually, in this trial and error period, an ordinary
kid will become more and more courageous and wise.
Another
advantage of sending kids to schools is the healthy competition present in the
setting of public schooling. We all remember that one kid that often answers all
the questions in the classroom plus, gets the highest score in exams. Just as
so, having such competitors encourages students to work harder in order to
compete with those brilliant brains, which is absolutely a healthy way of studying.
Indirectly, students who put in effort to compete with others educationally or
in sports often achieve success in their own path even if they don’t become the
top student of the class.
In
short, public schooling is the best choice you can make for your child for all
it’s benefits. Let’s not narrow down education to knowledge found in books
alone. Little can I say to the quote of John Adams, the 2nd
President of The United States, “There are two educations. One should teach us
how to make living and the other how to live.” It speaks it all.
